Lockdown measures imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic are having an enormous impact on the global economy. However, the one big difference from the great pandemics of the past is that we have an additional weapon this time: the internet.
In the upcoming weeks, internet can help our businesses contain the damage. We can get round the closure of our physical stores and production centres by increasing connectivity and relying on digital business.
We can fight the crisis and limit its impact if we use the right digital communication strategy, allowing us to keep most of our commercial operations up and running.
Grazitti Interactive has put together a guide with some digital marketing trends to follow in these weeks of crisis, in an attempt to help businesses maximise efficiency on the digital market and, consequently, increase product sales volumes.
Let’s go through the 5 digital marketing trends that were outlined:
Interactive content. There are many ways to create a connection between our brand and the audience. Data shows that interactive content is much more likely to impress customers compared to a static one. Every piece of interactive content is a call-to-action and is easily shareable, therefore helping us increase brand awareness.
Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality: According to Gartner, by 2022, 70% of business will be experimenting with new immersive technologies, such as AR and VR. Augmented reality allows the creation of three-dimensional virtual product presentations, enhancing its visual impact. Virtual reality is one of the most immersive technologies for the audience; PlayStation VR, Google Cardboard and Oculus are one of the main VR tools at the moment. Brands are working on more and more immersive technologies to boost sales and improve customer experience.
Updating the SEO. It's no surprise that staying on top of search results is every digital marketer’s priority. Search engines algorithms change constantly and affect users search results. It is predicted that over the course of the next year this industry will tirelessly work on new algorithms to improve the quality of search results. It will be paramount not to lag behind.
Social Commerce. It’s no wonder that the eCommerce and social media industries grew exponentially in the last decade. Many enterprises have already decided to combine these two elements, making social networks one of the most effective ways to sell their products directly and to leverage advertising investments made on these platforms, such as shoppable stories and posts, social commerce plugins and apps, and ads on social networks with call-to-actions that redirect to external eCommerce sites. In the USA, 36% of web users say that social networks are very effective tools for making purchase choices.
Smart Bidding on Google Ads. Smart Bidding is a set of automatic offer strategies using machine learning to optimize conversions or conversion value during each auction, a feature known as “auction-time bidding”. These improvements were announced at Google Marketing Live 2019 and are probably going to bring about great changes in the digital marketing world. Automation and smart bidding may become the norm in 2020.
