What does Slow Fashion really mean?

The term Slow Fashion was coined in 2007 by Kate Fletcher. It refers to systems and practices of fashion design, production and consumption that are opposed to the dominant production solutions and logics, therefore it presents as an alternative to fast fashion.

The Slow Fashion phenomenon encompasses all ethical and even artisanal fashion approaches that deal with controlled, sustainable and small quantity production methods.

Often Slow Fashion also emphasizes the local and collaborative aspect of the product and consequently its practices are even indirectly aimed at enhancing a territory and its Made In.

Slow Fashion can be also considered a depository system of know-how and artisanal and manufacturing traditions. Thus, Slow Fashion encourages producers to keep the production process as transparent and original as possible and it motivates end customers to consume in a conscious way, avoiding waste, giving new meaning both to the product and to the manufacturing process itself.

At AlwaysOn Show through our digital platform we want to transmit the stories and storytelling of our makers by showcasing their Slow Fashion collections.

Our contemporary artisans produce beautiful and useful objects which are the result of continuous research and innovation processes and a careful selection of techniques and materials.

Our makers’ creations last over time, as they can be transmitted from generation to generation and can be repaired.

Our artisans are mainly family businesses, rooted in the territory and representatives of a transparent supply chain. They produce in a controlled manner and actively operate in the development of the surrounding context, giving work to the community and generating positive effects on the territory, both in environmental and social and cultural terms.

At AlwaysOn Show we are committed not only to spreading and deepening these concepts through our digital platform and on our social media channels but also to giving value to the Slow Fashion practices of our exhibitors.

In this way we can assure to transmit their know-how and traditions and allow our buyers and final consumers to acknowledge these principles.
